The word ‘Kosher’ in Hebrew translates to fit or proper. It alludes to food that is fit for consumption by Jewish people. Jews have multiple laws regarding food like how should food be produced, prepared, and eaten, or what to avoid. Therefore as per Jewish customs, everything on the menu is kosher. Currently, Rabbi Kozlovsky, a Jew who lives at Nariman House, oversees all the requirements of food in the kosher customs of Jews. Even so, he slaughters the meat used by Kosher Mumbai according to the requirements of their customs. It is good to see when culture and customs retained after so many years.

A Little History Of Where It Is Located In Colaba

It is located at Nariman House or Chabad House in Colaba. In the year 2003, newly married Rabbi Gavriel and Rivka Holtzberg made it a stay for the way Jews visit Mumbai. Sadly, both of them were murdered in a terrorist attack, by Lashkar-e-Taiba in 2008.

Years later, it stands as a beacon of hope and assurance for the Jewish community. Now, it has become a memorial site and an active place. Therefore, Kosher Mumbai is living and breathing life back to Jewish food for all the Jews in Mumbai. If you do have the time then explore each of the floors after you have had a delicious meal at Kosher Mumbai. The important things are a small and pretty bookshelf and a wall with bullet marks.
