Saga Hospitality Group, the parent company of his two eateries, Crown Shy and Saga, and Kent’s cocktail bar, Overstory, all housed in the same Manhattan building in the Financial District, announced his passing. The message didn’t say how or where he passed away. The culinary industry was rocked by the news of chef James Kent’s passing on Saturday, June 15.

Kent’s career took a significant turn when he joined the team at Eleven Madison Park, one of New York’s most esteemed restaurants. Under the mentorship of Chef Daniel Humm, Kent honed his skills and developed a unique culinary style that combined classical techniques with contemporary flair. His meticulous attention to detail and innovative approach quickly earned him a reputation as one of the most promising young chefs in the city.

James Kent’s culinary philosophy was rooted in the belief that food should be delicious and tell a story. He was known for his ability to create dishes that were both visually stunning and deeply flavourful. His menus often featured unexpected combinations of flavours and textures. Crown Shy received a one-star rating from Michelin. Saga received two.
