Rio Carnival- The World’s Biggest Street Party Is Coming To Brazil This February

If you’re planning a trip to Brazil this year, February is the best time to visit. Wondering why? The Rio Carnival will kick off on 21 February; bigger and better this time! From Samba dancers, to jazzy music and other eye-catchy performance, the five-day carnival is expected to attract millions of visitors from around the world to the busy streets of Rio. Here’s what you can expect from the ‘World’s Biggest Street Party’.

What Is The Rio Carnival?

The Rio Carnival is one of Brazil’s long-held tradition dating back to the 17th century. The street party happens every year before lent, and fills the city with colour, costumes and feasts. Here’s the schedule for this year:

Experiences

The highlight of any Carnaval experience is attending (or participating in) a parade at the Sambódromo. Schools compete to bag the top spot in the parade, after which the winners are announced. Tickets for the parade are available at LIESA, the official samba school league. Here’s the schedule for this year’s parade:

Apart from parades, travelers can also enjoy Carnival balls- costumed, parties with live music and dancing. These parties are held at Rio Scenarium, the Jockey Club, Circo Voador and at other venues. There’s also open-air concerts (Rio Folia), as well as live band performances, for visitors to enjoy. So, don a costume, learn a few songs, and join the fun! And don’t forget to carry along your swimming costume to take a dip in the ocean afterwards.

Once you’re done partying, head over to explore the North Eastern region of Bahia in Brazil. A short two-hour flight from Rio de Janeiro will take you to the city of Salvador.
