When it comes to performing live, every artist has a special pre-show ritual that grounds them. In a recent episode of Tere Gully Mein on Curly Tales, singer and performer Sagar Bhatia opened up about his heartwarming routine before taking the stage — and it’s all about music, blessings, and his mum! Let’s take a look at the wholesome tradition that keeps Sagar going, no matter where in the world he is performing.
Sagar Bhatia Never Performs Without Calling His Mum First
One thing is clear, for Sagar Bhatia, family comes first. No matter where he is in the world or what time his performance is scheduled, he never takes the stage without calling his mother. During his candid chat on Tere Gully Mein, Sagar shared, “Even if I’m in India or abroad, I have to call my mum. It’s fixed.” This call is more than just a habit — it’s his way of seeking blessings and starting every performance on a positive note. He even recalled a show in Hyderabad when his mum didn’t answer the phone right away. But just as he was stepping on stage, her call came in, and Sagar paused the show to speak with her. A truly beautiful moment!

Riyaaz, Sai Baba’s Vibhuti, And Sacred Silence
Another non-negotiable part of Sagar Bhatia’s pre-show ritual is riyaaz — vocal practice. As soon as he’s done showering, he enters the washroom, turns on the tanpura, and begins his riyaaz. “No one is allowed to talk to me during this time,” he said with a laugh. It’s his sacred space to connect with his voice and centre himself.

Sagar is also a devotee of Sai Baba. Before every performance, he applies vibhuti (sacred ash) to his neck and consumes a bit of it. “It’s my way of feeling grounded and protected,” he explained.
This Is What Keeps Sagar Bhatia Connected To His Roots
Whether it’s a packed concert hall or an intimate performance, Sagar Bhatia believes that rituals like these keep him calm and connected to his purpose. Calling his mum, doing his riyaaz, and invoking blessings — these steps are what make every show special for him.
