Comedian Kunal Kamra has intensified his criticism of food delivery platform Zomato. This came after a controversial post from the company that appeared to criticise customers who don’t rate delivery partners. This exchange marks the latest chapter in Kamra’s persistent campaign against what he perceives as exploitative labour practices in the gig economy.

Kunal Kamra On Zomato’s “Delivery Partner Ratings” Post

Recently, Zomato took to X (formerly known as Twitter) and shared a critical post regarding people who neglect to give ratings to delivery partners. The post criticised the same users for getting upset when the partners are unfairly compensated.

Responding to Zomato’s post about user ratings, Kamra crafted a sarcastic reply that highlighted the irony of a company concerned about recognition while allegedly neglecting minimum wage and social security for its workers.

His pointed response drew attention to the disconnect between corporate expectations and worker welfare. This confrontation follows several previous instances where Kamra has publicly challenged Zomato’s leadership.

In June 2024, CEO Deepinder Goyal celebrated achieving a Guinness World Record for “largest first aid lesson at a single venue”. Kamra then questioned why the company could publicise trivial statistics about biryani orders but not disclose the average income and working hours of its delivery partners.

Kamra’s advocacy extends beyond Zomato to other delivery platforms. He began 2025 by questioning Blinkit CEO Albinder Dhindsa about delivery partner compensation after the company boasted about record-breaking New Year’s Eve statistics. It included highest-ever orders and tips.

Kamra provocatively described such platform operators as “landlords without owning any land”. The comedian’s consistent focus on minimum wage provision and social security benefits for delivery workers has resonated with many concerned about labour rights in the growing gig economy.

As digital delivery platforms continue expanding their operations and breaking performance records, Kamra’s persistent questioning serves as a counterbalance. It highlights the human cost potentially hidden behind impressive statistics and innovative business models.

His public stance raises important questions about whether the convenience these platforms provide comes at the expense of fair worker treatment.
