Following the detection of a potential issue in the cargo hold area by the cockpit crew, the flight landed safely at Krasnoyarsk. Passengers disembarked and were promptly ushered into the terminal building to await further developments. Air India is working tirelessly to get passengers back on track. The airline is in close communication with government officials and local authorities to arrange onward travel to San Francisco.
Air India released a statement saying that Air India flight AI-183, travelling from Delhi to San Francisco, had been diverted to Krasnoyarsk International Airport (UNKL) in Russia because of a technical issue. The statement went on to say that the plane had landed safely and that the airline’s top priority was the well-being of both the passengers and the crew. Air India also said they were working with the relevant authorities to make sure the passengers’ needs were taken care of while they figured out what to do next.

The statement went on to add that since Air India lacked its own staff at Krasnoyarsk International Airport, they were securing third-party assistance to ensure all necessary support was provided to the passengers. It further elaborated that Air India was in communication with government agencies and regulatory bodies to arrange a ferry flight to transport the passengers directly to San Francisco at the earliest possible convenience.
This incident comes on the heels of a similar diversion earlier this month. A Qatar Airways flight en route from Doha to Goa was forced to land in Bengaluru due to poor visibility at the intended destination. In June, an Akasa Air flight from Delhi to Mumbai was diverted to Ahmedabad following a security alert.
Air India has assured passengers of a swift resolution and is actively working on getting them to their final destination.
