Sanskar Kendra In Ahmedabad To Soon Be Revived As World Heritage City Museum With Cafeteria

Sanskar Kendra

The Sanskar Kendra, formerly known as the City Museum, will be soon revived, as per the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC), into a location that highlights the city’s status as a World Heritage Site. This means that it will be converted into a World Heritage City Museum. A visitor cafeteria will also be available at the museum. Sanskar Kendra has been closed for renovations since March 2020 because of COVID-19.

AMC has already made the decision to renovate the beautiful Sanskar Kendra. According to Deputy Municipal Commissioner for AMC Ishwar K. Patel, they wish to preserve the structure as a historic structure.

The design will be created and reviewed by the heritage expert. The structure will undergo renovations and modifications to incorporate information about how Ahmedabad has changed and grown up to this point.

A rare seated marble statue of Queen Victoria that once stood in the Victoria Garden, as well as the 1800s foundation stone for the Ellis Bridge across the Sabarmati River, are among the unusual artefacts kept in the museum.

According to Sanskar Kendra Museum curator Maitri Adhwaryu, the museum has remained closed for renovations since it was forced to close in March 2020 following the COVID-19 outbreak.

Rushi Pandya, a second city engineer for AMC, asserted that “not much structural work can be done on the building.” Aside from maintaining the building’s structural integrity, he claimed it was his responsibility to “restore the building and to ensure that the basic design is not changed,” adding that he also needed to remodel it so that it would last for the ensuing 40–50 years.

Le Corbusier, a Swiss-French architect, built the structure in 1954, but it has since deteriorated to the point where debris is now falling from the pinnacle. The AMC decided to shut down the building entirely for the sake of everyone’s safety due to its unstable condition. (As per The Indian Express)
