Out of the 200 small earthquakes that the region experienced, the biggest measured 4.6 magnitudes on the Richter scale. These earthquakes occurred within a span of 48 hours, inciting concern and raising alarm. Rescue teams have already been sent to the island.

Schools Closed, Officials Issue Advisory To The Residents

Tremors and minor earthquakes are not new to the tourist hotspot. The tremors, as per experts are not related to volcanic activity. Santorini was formed due to one of the largest volcanic eruptions in the history of the world. It took place around 1600 BC.

In 1956, Santorini experienced another massive eruption that caused record-breaking destruction and claimed a number of lives.
