It was recently announced that the UAE’s Air Arabia will soon be operating a new low-cost airline, which is going to be launched by Saudi Arabia. This operation will be based out of King Fahd International Airport, which is in Dammam, and here’s all you need to know about this development.
Saudi Arabia To Launch New Low-Cost Airline
As revealed in a report by the Gulf News, Saudi Arabia now plans to launch a new national low-cost airline. This comes at a time when there is a push towards transforming the kingdom into a regional aviation hub. As revealed by the General Authority of Civil Aviation, Air Arabia has won the bid to operate the carrier. However, this was a consortium including Kun Investment Holding and Nesma Holding.
Several Destinations Will Be Covered

At this point, it’s worth mentioning that the airline is expected to begin its operations with 45 aircraft initially. It will cover 24 domestic and 57 international destinations. Not to mention, it is also expected to serve about 10 million passengers annually. This expansion comes as part of the National Transport and Logistics Strategy of Saudi Arabia. A major component of Vision 2030, it aims to diversify the economy and enhance the competitiveness of the Kingdom.
It Will Create 2,400 Direct Jobs
This aims to enhance the Kingdom’s tourism, logistics, and transport. With the new low-cost airline, there will be better air connectivity to and from the Eastern Province.
As a result, it is bound to improve operational efficiency while also boosting seat availability. With the launch of the new airline, it is also expected that 2,400 direct jobs will be created. In fact, it will also raise service quality across the aviation market. Coming back to the kingdom’s goal, it aims to move 100 million passengers annually by the end of the decade.
