It’s true, and under this option, women hailing the rides in Saudi Arabia can now be matched exclusively with female drivers! Here’s all you need to know about this big development from Saudi Arabia.

Uber Launches Women Drivers Option In Saudi Arabia

It was recently revealed that Uber has now launched women-only taxis in Saudi Arabia. So, basically, women riders in the kingdom can hail women-driven taxis. And it should be noted that this new feature is called ‘Women Drivers’. This new option is a part of the broader effort to increase the participation of women in the workforce and mobility sector. Additionally, this development comes seven years after Saudi Arabia lifted the ban on women driving.

It basically functions like standard UberX services. However, it will gradually be rolled out to riders across the kingdom in the coming weeks. Through this feature, women can book on-demand trips or even schedule them up to 30 minutes with the help of ‘Uber Reserve’. So, with the launch of the ‘Women Drivers’ option in the kingdom, it not only aims to empower women but also support mobility.

As it happens, Uber now also plans to launch GigSister event. This would basically be a community-focused programme for female drivers. With the help of the event, they would be able to share experiences, build a local support network and even connect with other female drivers.

Additionally, Uber also undertook several female-focused services in Saudi Arabia. This included Wusool, which enabled more than 20 million subsidised rides for women and ‘Women Rider Preference’ which allowed female drivers to particularly accept women riders.

So, with this new feature in place, it is bound to promote mobility in the Kingdom.
