Saudi Arabia: Authorities Plan To Open New Childcare Nurseries At Workplace; Details Inside

With the aim of strengthening women’s participation in the labour market, Saudi Arabia is planning to expand workplace nurseries. This especially aims to support working parents. As directed by the Saudi Arabia’s Council of Ministers, the Ministry of Education, in coordination with the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development and other authorities, will be working towards opening such workplace nurseries.

Saudi Arabia To Open Workplace Nurseries

In a report of the Saudi Gazette, it was mentioned how the authorities are planning to open childcare nurseries at government and private sector workplaces. It should be noted that authorities have been tasked with developing regulations and procedures. These would govern the establishment of workplace nurseries in Saudi Arabia. Not to mention, it would cross both the public and private sectors to address the organisational challenges and streamline implementation.

Necessary Support For Overcoming Challenges

As mentioned in the report, it emphasises the importance of offering necessary support to overcome human, financial, technical, and organisational challenges. Authorities have also been directed to raise awareness among employees. Especially when it comes to the importance of the workplace nurseries and their impact on parents, children, and employers. This decision by the cabinet also stresses the need to address different working hours between nurseries and several sectors. The new nurseries must also account for variations in daily start and end times so that employees are encouraged to enrol their children in workplace child care centres.

The decision is also for planning and preparing appropriate spaces and infrastructure. Especially as these are needed to establish nurseries at workplace. While also ensuring there is compliance with the existing regulatory requirements. Not to mention, all the related costs must be covered in the existing approved budget through the reprioritised spending.
