Lights, camera, action, the 11th Saudi Film Festival is ready to take the spotlight once again! Set to run from April 17 to April 23, 2025, the festival is hosted by The Cinema Association in collaboration with the King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture (Ithra) and supported by the Film Commission. This year’s theme? “Cinema of Identity”, a deep dive into cultural storytelling from Saudi Arabia, the Gulf, and beyond.
Saudi Film Festival 2025 Is Back With Blockbusters, Global Collabs & Awards!
This year, the festival will feature 68 screenings, including 36 feature films, short films, and documentaries showcasing the best of Saudi and Gulf cinema. Adding an international twist, 12 short films from Arab and global filmmakers will also be showcased, thanks to a collaboration with the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival in France. Expect stories that redefine identity, culture, and belonging on screen.
For filmmakers, the Production Market is where magic happens. This year, 22 exhibitors will showcase 22 projects, offering networking, funding, and collaboration opportunities. It’s the only platform in Saudi Arabia dedicated solely to empowering local filmmakers — making it the perfect hub to turn creative visions into reality.
Awards, Competitions & Recognition
The festival is also turning up the heat with multiple award categories. Out of 285 films submitted, only the best will win the coveted Saudi Film Festival Award. Additionally, 116 projects have entered the Production Market competition, and 313 scripts are vying for the unproduced screenplay award. Expect nothing less than cinematic brilliance!
Another exciting highlight this year? Japanese cinema! With eight feature and short films screened in collaboration with the Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia in Japan, audiences can experience a new cinematic culture. Additionally, masterclasses and cultural seminars with Japanese filmmakers will offer insights into their storytelling techniques.
