Saudi Arabia has many people besides their citizens living in the kingdom. As a result, during summer, there are many people who are wanting to travel to new places, both near and far. It’s worth mentioning that according to Wego, which is the number one travel app and the largest online travel marketplace in MENA, we have key insights into the travel trends of Saudi Arabia for the summer and they are as follows.

Saudi Travel Trends Revealed For Summer

Summer is the peak travel season for Saudi Arabian travellers. As a result, the numbers are further boosted by the Eid al-Adha holidays that fall right during the start of the summer break. So, many people decide to take vacations with their entire family for a much-needed break. As revealed by Wego and mentioned in a report by Zawya, there’s been a remarkable 16.39% year-on-year increase in the number of international flight bookings. This data is for the flights that originate from Saudi Arabia, however, domestic flights have also seen a substantial rise of 16.58% as compared to the same period for the previous year. This surge in bookings shows that there is a growing demand for travel among the residents of Saudi Arabia.

Residents Prefer Nearby Destinations

According to these travel trends, expats and locals alike are opting for nearby and similar destinations. Some of these are countries like Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Turkey, India, and Pakistan. Yes, these are the most booked international destinations on Wego from Saudi Arabia for the season and the data points to spontaneous travel planning. And most of these travellers are even making bookings within just a two-week window of departure.

Bookings Have Also Been Made For Short Window Before Departure

As it happens, experts at Wego have pointed to Egypt to support this notion. Yes, this country accounts for nearly half of all the trips that have been booked on Wego from Saudi Arabia between June and August. Due to the proximity to each other, the huge Egyptian community in Saudi can easily hop on a plane, especially as there are plenty of daily flights servicing the route.

Moreover, findings also show that Saudi travellers prefer five-star hotel accommodations. Constituting 41.09% of all international hotel bookings, this data has also been taken from Wego wherein the four-star hotels trail with 34.73%.
