Schools Cancelled:
In an effort to get students back in the classroom on Monday, the Jersey government announced that schools would be closed for a second day on Friday. Schools are scheduled to stay closed tomorrow in order to help assess the damage and reopen roads, according to a statement. Appointments for non-urgent medical care have been cancelled.
Jersey Airport:
Commercial flights were still not allowed to land at Jersey Airport, according to Ports of Jersey, whose engineers found significant damage to equipment and infrastructure as well as system faults brought on by the storm.
Southern Rail & East Coast Main Line:
Due to a high risk of falling trees and debris flying across the lines, Southern Rail advised customers to stay at home and avoid making any unnecessary trips. As a result, many commuters were able to escape the worst of the weather. Due to power outages at both ends of the line, rail users planning to travel on the East Coast main line from Edinburgh Waverley to London King’s Cross are advised not to do so today.

As Storm Ciarán continued to pound western Europe, rivers in central Italy overflowed due to torrential rain, leaving at least three people dead and several missing.
Two individuals lost their lives when a bridge collapsed close to Pistoia. In the town of Rosignano, there was another death. The Bisenzio, which flows north of Florence, and the Ombrone, which flows south of the city, present difficult problems, according to the governor of Tuscany. As the storm raged, a woman lost her life when her automobile was discovered in a river after a violent downpour.
