Shankh Air Is India’s Newest Airline; All About This New Full-Service Airline Originating From Uttar Pradesh

Shankh Air

India’s aviation sector is about to witness the launch of Shankh Air, a new full-service airline. The Union Civil Aviation Ministry recently gave it a No Objection Certificate (NOC), which is valid for three years. This is the first step in a series of approvals that the airline must secure before it can take to the skies.

Shankh Air Is India’s Newest Airline

Shankh Air is owned by Shankh Aviation Private Limited and is positioned to be the first scheduled airline originating from Uttar Pradesh. The airline’s headquarters will be in Lucknow and Noida, serving as its primary hubs. The company plans to connect these hubs with major cities across India. Shankh Air aims to focus on routes that have high demand but limited direct flight options, both inter-state and within the state.

Before it can start carrying passengers, Shankh Air needs operational approval from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), India’s aviation regulator. This clearance is crucial, as it ensures that the airline meets all safety and operational standards. The DGCA’s approval will mark the final go-ahead for Shankh Air to commence its flight services.

The airline has made it clear that it will be a full-service provider, focusing on passenger comfort and offering a seamless flying experience. Competitive pricing, reliability, and customer satisfaction will be central to its strategy. Shankh Air’s mission statement emphasises its commitment to elevating the travel experience while connecting cities that have been underserved by direct flights.

Major Player In India

Shankh Air is led by Sharvan Kumar Vishwakarma, its chairman and an ambitious entrepreneur. Vishwakarma envisions Shankh Air as a major player in India’s growing aviation market. He already met with key figures, including Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu, to discuss the airline’s strategic goals.

Earlier in the year, Vishwakarma and the airline’s management team met with Noida International Airport’s leadership to explore potential partnerships. This partnership could support the state government’s broader initiative to improve air connectivity across Uttar Pradesh.

Shankh Air plans to lease new-generation Boeing 737-800NG aircraft for its fleet. These narrow-body planes are known for their fuel efficiency and suitability for both short- and medium-haul flights. The airline is in advanced discussions with global lessors to secure the necessary aircraft for its operations.

Shankh Air must also secure compliance with foreign direct investment (FDI) rules and follow regulations set by the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) before receiving DGCA’s operational approval. The airline’s entry into the market will also depend on these financial clearances.
