As Ramadan begins soon, one of the most cherished traditions in the UAE happens to be the firing of Iftar cannons. The canons and their firing signify the breaking of the fast for the day. Now, after Dubai, Sharjah has also identified 10 locations where it will be launching Iftar Cannons during Ramadan. Take a look!

Sharjah Police Reveals 10 Locations For Iftar Cannons

The Sharjah Police has identified several locations where it will be launching Iftar Cannons during the month of Ramadan for 2025. Some of these are as follows

Al Majaz Waterfront
Muwailih Suburb Council
Al Siouh Suburb Council
Al Rahmaniya Suburb Council
Al Hamriya Suburb Council
Dibba Al Hisn

Similarly, in the central region, there will be two main locations of Al Dhaid Fort and Al Naeem Mosque in Tawila’a neighbourhood, where the cannons will be fired. These are located in the city of Al Madam. In fact, several locations have also been identified in the eastern region. These include the Clock Tower and Al Hafiya Lake!

The Custom Of Iftar Cannons

Some of these cannons will be located in the following locations talking about the custom, the canon firings began in 10th century Egypt. These were earlier fired to let the people know when it was time to break the fast. And now, keeping up with the traditions, UAE continues to fire Iftar cannons every year during Ramadan. In fact, Dubai Police had earlier also announced the locations where both stationery and mobile Iftaar cannons could be found for Ramadan 2025.

Ramadan, as you already know, is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar. It is the holy month when Muslims abstain from eating and drinking from sunrise to sunset. Yes, the month of Ramadan is expected to begin on March 1. However, it depends on the sighting of the crescent moon. And the month will end on the basis of when the moon is sighted, marking the festival of Eid al-Fitr.
