Our Editor-in-Chief, Kamiya Jani, sat down with the two legendary stars, Shatrughan Sinha and Paresh Rawal, for a delicious Sunday Brunch. Over some chakna and chai at Shatrughan Ji’s house, Ramayan, the duo shared everything about their life. They opened up about how they got into the acting industry, their early life, struggles and more. Shatrughan Ji even shared a backstory from his acting days about how he was all set to go for plastic surgery. But there was one legendary actor who was not convinced by his decision and asked him not to do it. Read on to find out who he was.
Who Stopped Shatrughan Sinha From Opting For Plastic Surgery?
Shatrughan Sinha came to Mumbai with big dreams and wanted to begin his career in films. But what scared him the most was his facial scars. He said, “Darr lagta tha ki kati-fati shakal thi aur mujhe lagta tha ki kaise actor banunga waha pe. Log kehte bhi the ki yeh kati-fati shakal ka kuch karlo.” He heard many such comments at the beginning of his career, and they affected him to such an extent that he even consulted a doctor about getting plastic surgery. He discussed options to improve his appearance and make his face more presentable for the screen.
He shared, “Lekin jab Dev Saab ke paas gaya… Dev Anand Saab mujhe bohot maante the. Unhone kaha, ‘Kabhi mat karana. Tumhari personality jo hai, agar tum kamyaab ho jaoge, toh yahi tumhara signature style ho jayega.”
Dev Anand ji advised him and said that the gap between his teeth was what people liked the most about him. He believed that whatever seems like a minus point today can eventually turn into your biggest plus point.
Dev Anand, the legendary actor, believed in him and felt that his unique appearance would eventually become his identity, something audiences would love him for. That one piece of advice changed everything. It gave Shatrughan Sinha the confidence to embrace himself as he was, and he never went through with the surgery.

He Shared About A Girl That He Liked In His Younger Days
During his initial struggling days in Bombay, he had an interaction with a girl. Since he used to travel by bus, he would see her every day at the bus stop and almost felt that she liked him. The girl would go in the Fiat car; her wealth made him dream of marrying her. His imagination wandered in all directions, all in the hope that he would find an easy way to escape his struggling phase. But unfortunately, that never happened. When Kamiya asked that even if the girl had said yes, what if he got nothing in dowry after marriage? He replied, ”Dahej ke layak mujhe samjha hi nahi gaya.” He shared that when he got married to his wife, her family took a year to just agree to the marriage.
