On a recent episode of Sunday Brunch, we met the wonderful Shefali Shah, known for her iconic performances in shows like Delhi Crime and films like Dil Dhadakne Do. Her roles have always left a lasting impression on audiences—something they can often see themselves in. During this episode, our Editor-in-Chief, Kamiya Jani, met Shefali for a seafood feast at Mumbai’s iconic restaurant, Gajalee. During this insightful conversation, we not only got to know more about Shefali and her stellar performances but also got a rare glimpse into her personal life, daily routine, diet choices, and much more. Read on for some interesting revelations she made!
Shefali Shah Stays Up All Night
As soon as the feast was laid out, we instantly realised that Shefali Shah was the perfect companion to enjoy seafood with at Gajalee. Her love for food was evident right from the beginning. Naturally, we were curious to know what kind of food she usually eats at home and whether she’s extremely diet-conscious. She revealed that her diet is actually quite erratic and not something she would recommend to anyone. She survives the entire day on tea, coffee, chaas, and Diet Coke, and only has one proper meal—dinner.
Shedding more light on her lifestyle, Shefali also revealed that she’s a night owl and rarely sleeps at night. These days, she falls asleep around 1 or 2 AM, but not too long ago, she used to stay up until 6 AM—only to realise she had just an hour left before getting her kids ready for school. At 7 AM, after waking them up, she would prepare their breakfast, help them get ready, and drop them to the school bus. Only after they left would she finally go to sleep.
There was also a time when she would spend all night painting. She recalled staying up with her mother, sipping chai, listening to music, and painting together. “I got this from my mother,” she said. Even now, her sleep schedule isn’t perfect. While she doesn’t paint anymore, she believes the usual culprit is the phone—something most people can relate to. Though she knows she’s supposed to switch off all devices and go to bed, she simply can’t—her brain refuses to shut down.

She Has A Simple Advice For Her Younger Self
We also asked Shefali if she could go back in time and give one piece of advice to her 20-year-old self, what would it be? She replied that she would tell herself not to rush into marriage. Instead, she should take time to fully live her life, take risks, and not be afraid of consequences or failure. Even if she failed, it would be okay. And that’s exactly what she would want her younger self to know.
Later in the episode, Shefali also shared how her very first solo trip happened completely by accident. Watch the full episode on the Curly Tales YouTube channel to find out all about it!
