Recently, the Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council, Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum announced that single-use plastic bags and products are now banned in the emirate of Dubai. This has been implemented since January 1, 2024, while the resolution was issued on Sunday, December 31, 2023. This ban applies to single-use disposable products and recycled ones as well. Single-Use Plastic Items Banned In Dubai
In a recent report, by Khaleej Times, it was revealed that single-use plastic bags and products are now banned in Dubai. So, basically now, food delivery packaging materials, fruit & vegetable wrapping, thick plastic bags, plastic containers, and packaging materials that are made out of plastic are now included in the list of items banned. Not to mention, these also include items, which are entirely made of plastic or even partially, such as snack bags, wet wipes, plastic bottles, balloons, and balloon sticks.
Soon The Ban Will Extend To Other Items
As such this ban also extends to sellers and consumers in Dubai, thereby covering private development zones and free zones, which includes the Dubai International Financial Centre. However, it should be noted that the ban does exclude thin bags that are used for meat, fish, vegetables, grains, bread, or fish packaging, garbage bags, and products for export. Well, other single-use items and plastic items will be banned from January 2025 and 2026. These include

What About Fines For Violation?
As you might have already guessed, the aim of this decision is to predict the natural environment and local biological animal wealth. Not to mention, if someone is found violating the law, they will be fined AED200. While if they are found violating this rule again, within one year, the penalty will be doubled with the maximum, not exceeding AED2000.
