Sheikh Mohammed Launches AED30 Bn Rainwater Drainage Project That Will Serve Dubai For 100 Years!

Dubai is a hotbed for developments. With many mega projects being launched for the improvement of the city, it’s certainly heartwarming to see that the authorities think about ways in which they can make the city better for the residents. And keeping up with this range of developments, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Ruler of Dubai and the Vice President and the Prime Minister of the UAE approved the Tasreef project. With the aim of developing Dubai’s rainwater drainage system, this project will be developed at the cost of AED30 billion.

Sheikh Mohammed Launches Tasreef Project

One of the largest strategic infrastructure projects in Dubai, the Tasreef Project aims to develop the rainwater drainage system in Dubai. Increasing the capacity of Dubai’s rainwater drainage system by 700%, it’s going to cover all the areas in the emirate. The project was approved in the presence of His Highness Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, who is also the first Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance of the UAE. As it happens, His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Second Deputy Ruler of Dubai was also present.

There was also an emphasis on the continuous enhancement of Dubai’s sustainable infrastructure enhancement. This is integral to the growth and prosperity of the city. Coming back to the drainage structure, then initiative aims to make it more advanced, safe, flexible, and ready for facing future challenges.

The Project Will Raise Drainage Capacity

As such, the project will raise the drainage network’s capacity to over 20 million cubic metres of water daily. Yes, and the flow capacity will be 230 m³ per second. This means it will become the largest rainwater collection project in a single system in the entire region. In fact, it will also meet the needs of people in the city for the next 100 years! In case you wondering when the work will start, the answer is now! Yes, implementation of the project has already been directed and it is expected that this project will be completed by 2033.

In case you weren’t aware, this project is a continuation of the Drainage Project launched by Dubai in 2019. This covers the entire area of the emirate, including the Expo Dubai area, Al Maktoum International Airport City, and Jebel Ali. As such, it also supports Dubai’s plans and strategies for developing a flexible, advanced, and future-ready infrastructure. Not to mention, the municipality will implement the project while adhering to the highest global standards for technology and engineering.
