The event was a joint effort, brought to life by the UAE Government Media Office, the Pakistan Association Dubai, Dubai Police, and, of course, the Dubai World Trade Centre. The guest list read like a who’s who of VIPs, with Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence, gracing the occasion. Alongside him was Faisal Niaz Tirmizi, the Ambassador of Pakistan to the UAE, as well as several diplomats and dignitaries who were all there to honour the strong ties between the two nations.
But the spotlight wasn’t just on the officials. The evening also celebrated some of Pakistan’s most iconic sports figures. Naila Kiani, the first Pakistani woman and only the third Pakistani overall to conquer 11 of the 14 highest peaks above 8,000 metres, was honoured for her trailblazing achievements. The crowd also cheered for cricket legend Shahid Afridi, whose record-breaking career and charitable work have made him a household name. And let’s not forget squash champion Jahangir Khan and hockey star Shahbaz Ahmed, both of whom were recognised for their incredible contributions to sports.
