You are probably well aware that the Dubai RTA is constantly doing its bit through several road development projects to ensure the residents of the emirate can travel seamlessly. And now, keeping up with the streak, they have announced another important development project. Yes, they have awarded the contract for the Oud Metha and Al Asayel Streets Development Project, which will be a part of the Sheikh Rashid Corridor Development Project. This project will connect Al Asayel Street to Al Khail Road. Yes, and this will be through Al Nawras Street while also offering exits to Oud Metha and Al Nawras Streets. Here’s more about this project.

Sheikh Rashid Corridor Development Project To Slash Travel Time

The Sheikh Rashid Corridor Development Project is one of the most important infrastructure projects. This involves the construction of four major intersections, 4300 m of bridges, and 14 km of roads. With this development, the residential areas of Zabeel, Umm Hurair, Al Jaddaf, Latifa Hospital, Oud Metha, and Al Wasl Club will be serviced. And the best part is that as the capacity of vehicles will increase by 50%, it is expected to reduce the travel time from 20 minutes to just 5 minutes on the road. Yes, the project will be able to accommodate 15,600 vehicles per hour, thereby reducing the travel time with a massive improvement of 75%.

It’s worth mentioning that the first intersection, which is located at the intersection of Oud Metha Street and Sheik Rashid Street includes adding a left lane for traffic. This will be from Oud Mehta to Sheikh Rashid Street, which will be boasting a capacity to 1,800 vehicles per hour. Not to mention, the number of right-turn lanes for the traffic that will be coming from Sheikh Rashid Street towards Dubai-Al Ain Road will also be increased from 2 to 3, thereby raising the capacity to 4,000 vehicles per hour.

The second one will be located at the intersection of Oud Mehta Street, which will be with Al Asayel and Al Nawras Streets. This will involve the construction of two bridges that will connect Al Asayel to Al Khail Road, which will be via Al Nawras Street. This will include a bridge with two lanes that will be able to accommodate 2,400 vehicles per hour. Serving the traffic from Al Asayel towards AlNavras, there will also be a second bridge. This will include three lanes that will be able to accommodate 3,600 vehicles per hour. Besides this, a separate two-lane bridge will also be constructed. This will facilitate a left turn for the traffic that will come from Al Asayel to Oud Metha Street with a capacity of 2400 vehicles per hour.

What About The Third & Fourth Intersection?

The third intersection will be at the Al Nawras Street and Al Khail Road. With the construction of a two-lane bridge that will be able to accommodate traffic coming from Al Asayel Street to Al Khail Road, the bridge will have a capacity of 3,000 vehicles per hour. Not to mention, there will also be a service road on both sides of Al Nawras Street with parking spaces offered as a part of upgrades. Coming to the fourth intersection, this will be located at intersection of the Zabeel Palace Street with Al Khail and Oud Metha Street, which will have an addition of a lane on the left-hand ramp. The single-lane tunnel will have a capacity of 1,200 vehicles per hour.

So, it’s not wrong to say that the road’s capacity will increase, just as it did for Ras Al Khor after the development in the earlier phases.
