65-YO Woman Built A Successful Artisanal Pickle Business In The 90s; Her Daughter Now Carries Her Legacy

Old Fashioned Gourmet

Pickles and papads are an inseparable part of the Indian culinary landscape. They bring back childhood nostalgia and add impeccable flavour to even the simplest of food! Old Fashioned Gourmet was built to revive our country’s rich food heritage. Offering a massive range of pickles, papads, squashes, and spices, this brand was started by a 65-year-old lady in 1993.

Old Fashioned Gourmet, Bringing Back Childhood Nostalgia

Late Shyamlata Sihare started Old Fashioned Gourmet in the 90s, after having a thriving paper trading business. When her family asked her to slow down, she chose to venture into the food business and created the brand to revive heirloom recipes of pickles and spices.

Shyamlata Sihare ji was born into a wealthy Marwari family. However, she and her sisters were taught how to do all household chores from a very early age, including pickle making. She loved to feed people and built a business around it, too. She passed away in 2014 at the age of 85, and since then, Vasundhara Jhunjhunwala, her daughter, has been looking after and expanding Old Fashioned Gourmet.
