The Abu Dhabi Airport and the Federal Authority for Identity Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security have now come into a partnership. Here’s what the Smart Travel Project is all about.

Smart Travel Project To Soon Be Introduced At Zayed International Airport

Introduced in collaboration with Next 50, this is a company that specialises in AI-based transportation solutions. The smart travel project as revealed by the Abu Dhabi Media Office will be rolled out in three phases. With the aim of integrating biometric authentication systems across all security and operation touchpoints at the airport, this will be done in a seamless manner. It’s worth mentioning that this project utilises the database of the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security.

As a result, it will automatically authenticate travellers using their biometric technology, thereby eliminating the need for prior registration for departing passengers. So, with the implementation of this project, the airport aims to uphold the highest aviation security and safety protocols within its premises

It’s bound to improve the traveller experience and streamline the whole process for passengers. In fact, the development comes after the new Terminal A at Zayed International Airport and Etihad Airways implemented biometric systems across multiple touchpoints at the airport. This included automated traveller registration service, facial recognition verification at and boarding gates, and self-service baggage delivery.

All of this could happen without travel documents or direct interaction with airport staff. In fact, the Abu Dhabi Airports have also begun implementing further phases of this project. Yes, by introducing biometric systems for five additional airlines at check-in, all boarding gates, and the installation of new gates, the further phase of this project will be implemented. In fact, future expansion will also include Etihad Airways Lounge and duty-free retail outlets.

It’s worth mentioning that with the introduction of the biometric smart travel project, the time taken to serve travellers will be reduced from 25 seconds to just seven. In fact, ticket and travel document verification will also be integrated into a single process, elevating the burden on human resources.
