Sohum Shah Was Heartbroken When This Scene Didn’t Make It To The Film

Tumbbad, the period folk horror film released in 2018, witnessed a massive flurry and appreciation again during its re-release last year. And of course, we had to ask the man himself, Sohum Shah, who excellently played the character of Vinayak Rao. Sharing a special trivia about the film, Sohum said, “Mera jo sabse favourite scene hai, woh film mein nahin hai.” (My favourite scene is not in the film.)

He spoke about the importance of surrendering during filmmaking. Sohum Shah revealed that they filmed the scene that showed the day when India got its independence. Vinayak Rao and his son Pandurang are seen travelling together. That time, Vinayak feeds his son ice cream. That’s when Vinayak asks Pandu about the first time he ate ice cream. Pandu replies that he tried ice cream for the first time with his mother, who bought it for him. Listening to him, even a stoic person like Vinayak, got teary-eyed.

Most importantly, he reasons that it’s the only scene in the film that shows Vinayak Rao’s vulnerability as he gets teary-eyed.
