The BMC has plans to soon transform the Trombay Jetty into an eco-tourism hub. According to an article recently published by The Times Of India TOI, the telos behind this activity is to fully explore the ecology of the area. As per a BMC official cited in the article, the officials are looking to develop the area without really disturbing its ecological surroundings or fishing activities.

The BMC has already sought all required approvals and has received the same from the Navy and the coastal zone authority as well as the forest department. It also intends to use solar power and to operate electric carts or buggies. Many members of the Koli community operate jetties. This project will prevent haphazard parking which leads to the forming of sludge.

The jetty overlooks the Elephanta Caves as well as the city of Navi Mumbai. The region witnesses the arrival of many seasonal and migratory birds. Hence, in order to further beautify the spot, this initiative is being undertaken. What is more, the creation of this jetty will also create various opportunities for locals as footfall will definitely increase.

The eco-tourism hub will have many activities that promote the exploration of the local ecology. It will have kayaking, boating, bird-watching towers, turtle and crab ponds and viewing decks, as well as a natural trail broadway! It will also have a nature interpretation centre and a butterfly garden! It will transform into a perfect spot for a day trip with your family.

What is more, it will also have a mangrove cafe so that patrons can enjoy some snacks and refreshments after a long and tiring day of exploring nature. Since the area also witnesses the arrival of migratory birds, families, and kids especially, can witness these uncommon winged creatures and get a kick out of it. The bird-watching towers will make it easier to spot them.

The hub can also be very educational for kids and adults alike as the Nature Interpretation Centre will certainly have informative material regarding local flora and fauna.
