According to an article which was recently published by The Free Press Journal or the FPJ, this particular mode of transport will revolutionise travel between Mumbai and Navi Mumbai. This will simultaneously cut traffic time as well as reduce traffic congestion in the city.
If reports are to go by, the services will become operational soon after the Navi Mumbai International Airport becomes operational, which will be in March 2025. As per the Union Minister, Mumbai has vast sea routes and the water taxis will harness those.
As per The Financial Express or FE, jetties have already been built for the taxis at various locations. In addition to the water taxis, the minister also spoke about introducing a network of intercity electric buses. These will be 18 metres long and will be able to carry a total of 135 passengers.
Other Important Details About This New Mode Of Transport
What is more exciting is that the Union Minister also hinted that the officials were mulling over introducing amphibious seaplanes for landing on smaller waterbodies in the financial capital of the country.
This, though certainly more convenient and exciting, would be quite detrimental to the environment. It is hard to see how such an initiative could be sustainably built. It is hoped that the officials will come up with some solution to make the initiative more sustainable.
