According to an article which was recently published by The Financial Express or FE, the Japanese government has pledged financial backing for the extension, with an investment of ₹54,000 crore. Progress is already underway, with tenders issued for the Versova-Madh section, whilst work on the Madh-Uttan stretch is scheduled to commence shortly.

The existing Coastal Road project is an eight-lane expressway spanning 29.2 kilometres along Mumbai’s western shoreline. It connects Marine Lines in the south to Kandivali in the north. A significant milestone was reached on March 11, 2024, with the inauguration of its first phase.

This was a 10.58-kilometre segment linking the Princess Street flyover to the Worli end of the Bandra-Worli Sea Link. This enhanced connectivity is expected to benefit millions of daily commuters whilst stimulating economic growth throughout the region.
