The Demilitarised Zone separates South Korea and North Korea and was established in 1953. It symbolises an agreement between South Korea and North Korea. One of the most well-known and highly guarded borders in the world is the Korean Demilitarised Zone, or DMZ. Every traveller to South Korea has the DMZ on their bucket list because they are so intrigued by this location near the boundary.
Peace-Themed Hiking Trails In The Demilitarised Zone Of South Korea
Along the Demilitarised Zone, 11 peace-themed hiking trails, on April 21, 2023 will be open to the general public. These trails will be seen in various cities of the country, like Gimpo, Paju, Cheorwon, Yanggu, Goseong, Ganghwa, Goyang, Yeoncheon, Hwacheon, and Inje.
The Korean Demilitarised Zone is surrounded by barbed wire fences, watchtowers, and armed troops from both sides. As we can see, it is certainly not entirely demilitarised.
Visitors to the DMZ had very severely limited access for a very long time. The situation is the same, but thanks to hiking and other guided tours, one can now learn a lot more about the history, culture, and nature of the two nations. (As per The Times Of India)
