The Indian Railway has announced operations of a special Mainline Electric Multiple Unit (MEMU) service on the Kollam-Ernakulam route. This new service will bring great relief to the passengers travelling on Venad and Palaruvi Express. The new train will run via Kottayam and will ease the morning passenger rush in Central Travancore. Read on to know more about it.
New MEMU Service Announced On Kollam-Ernakulam Route Via Kottayam
We have some good news for travellers on the Venad and Palaruvi Express trains! From October 7, a special MEMU train service will commence between Kollam and Ernakulam via Kottayam. This new train service will ease passenger congestion on this route, especially in the mornings. Southern Railway took the decision to introduce this new service after many people complained about the morning rush.
Numerous incidents of travel difficulties on the Palaruvi and Venad trains were reported due to the passenger rush. Seeing the urgent need to alleviate congestion, Railways decided to run this special train. As per The Times of India report, this service will continue till January 3, 2025. The Railways will run the special MEMU service five days a week, from Monday to Friday.

Schedule & All You Need To Know About This New Service
Addressing the travel woes in Central Travancore, this new MEMU service between Kollam and Ernakulam will have eight coaches. As per reports, the train will depart Kollam at 6.15 AM and arrive in Ernakulam at 9.35 AM. For the return journey, the train will depart Ernakulam at 9.30 AM and reach Kollam at 1.30 PM.
This special train will operate between Palaruvi Express and Venad Express. Also, it is to be noted that this service will not be available on the weekends. Besides the Kollam-Ernakulam MEMU service, the Railways also plans to operate MEMU trains on the Punalur-Ernakulam route.
