After all transportation services were called off in response to the nationwide lockdown, migrant labourers working in several metropolitan cities like Delhi and Mumbai were facing a tough time. Deprived of shelter and money, they had to walk several kilometres to reach their homes in villages or small towns. Understanding the plight of these people, airlines company SpiceJet has pitched in to offer help.
What Is It?
Migrant labourers are workers who travel from one place to another within or outside their nations to render services. They usually do not settle in any particular region. SpiceJet has recently given its aircraft and crew to the Government to fly the migrant workers, especially from Bihar, stranded in Delhi and Mumbai. Flights will operate from these two cities up to Patna, to carry the migrants to their homes in Bihar. Apart from SpiceJet, other carriers like GoAir and IndiGo have also promised to roll out their airbuses for any mission taken up to check the spread of COVID-19.

What’s More?
Even the Government of Kerala has taken up special steps to assist the migrant workers of the state during the lockdown days. These workers will be shifted to camps where they can avail food and medical facilities for free. As add on, the Government has also planned to provide them with education through Malayalam courses called Changathi.
