Stranded UAE Residents Can Return From June 1

The Covid-19 chaos separated families, leaving them stranded in various parts of the world. However, in a recent move, the UAE has announced that residents with valid visas stranded outside the country can return from June 1. The Ministry announced that residents with a valid visa can now enter the country to be reunited with their families.

Residents outside the country who wish to return to register for the ‘Residents’ Entry Permit’ service at the authority website, smartservices.ica.gov.ae. A statement issued by the ministry read: “The UAE is keen to facilitate the procedures for holders of valid UAE residency outside the country to reunite with their families who were affected by the precautionary measures taken by the country in light of the current exceptional circumstances to combat COVID-19.”

Hundreds of UAE residents are stuck abroad due to the unexpected freeze in air travel. The #BringBackUAEresidents hashtag was trending on Twitter on Monday as several residents and families requested the government to expedite their return to the UAE.

What Else?

Ever since UAE suspended inbound and outbound flights on 19 March, thousands have been stuck outside the country. The move was done in order to curb the spread of Covid-19. And now, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MoFAIC) has issued a new rule. All those stranded outside the UAE must fill out an Twajudi form.

However, no official announcement has been made about the same on any of the portals. But, a number of residents stranded outside the UAE brought the matter to notice on Facebook and Instagram. The Twajudi form requires your Emirates ID number, residency number and a photocopy of your residency visa. The form must be filled by everyone, including those who have already filled it earlier.

The new form requires you to mention the preferred flight for your return to Dubai. However, as many people haven’t booked a flight yet, it’s best to opt for the next available flight. In addition, you must note that there is a notice that reads ‘Do not book your return ticket until your application has been approved’.
