The United States & India Secure Top Spots On The List
With a road network stretching almost 6.6 million kilometres, the United States has the largest road network in the world. According to The Times of India, the country’s extensive road network includes a vast interstate highway network that helped it secure the top spot on the World’s Largest Road Networks 2024 list.
India has secured second position on the list with about a 6.4 million kilometre long road network. As per the data, as of December 2023, the country’s national and state highways measure about 1,46,145 kilometres and 1,79,535 kilometres, respectively. Road projects like the Golden Quadrilateral have greatly enhanced the country’s connectivity and effectively linked diverse landscapes and regions here.
Surprisingly, Russia secured 5th position on the list, despite being the world’s largest country by area. The country has a road network of about 1.3 million kilometres, as per The Times of India. It was placed behind countries like China (5.2 million kilometres) and Brazil (2 million kilometres) on the list.
