Strong tremors were felt across the Delhi-NCR region on Thursday morning, July 10, when an earthquake of 4.4 magnitude struck Jhajjar in Haryana at around 9:04 am. The tremors lasted a few seconds. Many residents in Delhi, Noida, and Gurgaon rushed out of their homes after feeling the sudden shake. Here’s more on it.

An earthquake with a magnitude of 4.4, with its epicentre in Jhajjar, Haryana, at a depth of 10 km, occurred on Thursday morning around 9:04 am. Its strong tremors were felt across Delhi, Noida and Gurgaon. The National Centre for Seismology (NCS) also shared the details on their official X account. They reported the coordinates at Latitude 28.63°N and Longitude 76.68°E.
The strong tremors caused many people to rush out of their homes and buildings. No immediate reports of damage or casualties have been reported so far. People in nearby areas like Ghaziabad, Gurgaon, Noida and Faridabad also felt the tremors apart from those in the Delhi region.

People Advised To Remain Calm

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) also issued an advisory after the earthquake, asking people to remain calm and step outside as soon as the tremors stop. They also advised people to stay prepared with emergency kits for such situations, along with many other dos and don’ts.
It is important to note that earthquakes are not unusual in Delhi, which lies in Seismic Zone 4, a zone with a higher risk of earthquakes. The Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) states that the national capital lies close to several active fault lines. These include the Delhi-Haridwar Ridge, the Sohna Fault, the Delhi-Moradabad Fault and the Mahendragarh-Dehradun Fault. According to NDTV, since 1720, the city has witnessed at least five earthquakes above 5.5 magnitude on the Richter scale.
