This overhaul aims to turn Surat Railway Station into a world-class transit hub, reflecting the city’s growth and modernisation.
The Redevelopment Project At Surat Railway Station
The Surat Station Redevelopment Project is a comprehensive effort to upgrade and expand the station’s facilities, ensuring it meets the highest standards of comfort and efficiency. As part of Phase I, the concourse work on Platform No. 04 is actively underway. This construction is crucial for the station’s enhanced functionality, but it has led to some temporary changes in train services to accommodate the ongoing work.
To facilitate the smooth progress of the redevelopment, there will be notable alterations in the train services originating and terminating at Surat station. Initially, the service adjustments were planned until September 7, 2024, but this has been extended to September 20, 2024, according to Desh Gujarat. Here’s how the changes are shaping up:
Train Services Short Originating from Udhna Station:
- Train No. 19002 Surat-Virar Passenger
This train, starting its journey from September 8 to September 20, 2024, will now depart from Udhna station at 04:25 hrs from Platform No. 4.
- Train No. 12936 Surat-Bandra Terminus Intercity Express
From September 8 to September 20, 2024, it will originate from Udhna station at 16:35 hrs from Platform No. 3.
- Train No. 19007 Surat-Bhusaval Passenger
It will start its journey from Udhna station at 17:24 hrs from Platform No. 3 between September 8 and September 20, 2024.
- Train No. 19005 Surat-Bhusaval Express
This train will depart from Udhna station at 23:30 hrs from Platform No. 4 during the same period.
- Train No. 09065 Surat-Chhapra Special
It will begin from Udhna station at 08:35 hrs from Platform No. 3 between September 9 and September 16, 2024.
- Train No. 19045 Surat-Chhapra Tapti Ganga Express
This train will depart from Udhna station at 10:20 hrs from Platform No. 5 between September 8 and September 20, 2024.
- Train No. 22947 Surat-Bhagalpur Superfast Express
From September 10 to September 17, 2024, it will start from Udhna station at 10:20 hrs from Platform No. 5.

This train will now originate from Udhna station at 12:30 hrs from Platform No. 3 between September 8 and September 20, 2024.

These changes are designed to manage the increased operational flexibility and reduce congestion at Surat station, as per the Desh Gujarat reports. By temporarily shifting services to Udhna, which is approximately 7 km away but well connected by road, the authorities aim to facilitate the redevelopment work smoothly.
