Survey Reveals 85% Of Indian Couples Choose Destination Weddings; Goa Tops The List, Followed By Dubai And Bali

Skyscanner’s latest survey, “Destination ‘I Do’,” highlights a rising trend in destination weddings among Indian couples. According to the survey, 85% of respondents are either planning or have already had a destination wedding. This trend is especially strong among Gen Z, with 49% considering a destination wedding, compared to 33% of Millennials.

The appeal of lavish celebrations, inspired by high-profile weddings, is clear. A substantial 66% of respondents are excited about hosting grand pre-wedding events. If they could, 33% would choose a weekend getaway with loved ones, while 32% dream of a cruise party. Meanwhile, 29% envision an Italian-style soiree, and 26% are keen on lively gigs with friends. Clearly, Indian couples are committed to creating unforgettable pre-wedding experiences.

When it comes to choosing the ideal destination, Asia is a top pick. Nearly 48% of respondents prefer Asian destinations like Thailand, Japan, and the Maldives. These locations offer stunning scenery and are budget-friendly. Europe follows, with 31% considering romantic spots such as the UK, Spain, France, and Italy.

For those dreaming of their perfect destination wedding, Goa tops the list. Its sun-drenched beaches and vibrant atmosphere make it a favourite. Dubai is also popular for its glamorous skyline and opulent venues. Bali and Bangkok offer tropical vibes and rich cultural experiences, ideal for a dreamy wedding.

The survey also reveals diverse preferences for wedding vibes. 26% of respondents dream of a beach celebration, while 20% imagine a royal palace affair. Another 19% want a personalised event in picturesque locations like Tuscany or Mussoorie, and the same percentage prefer a glamorous celebration in bustling cities like Dubai or New York. Some envision a mountain backdrop, with stunning views in places like Mussoorie or Switzerland.

Indian couples are willing to spend more on their destination weddings, with 45% ready to increase their budgets by up to 50% for a truly unforgettable celebration. WeddingWire India reports that 56% of couples prioritise the venue’s style when choosing their destination, making Udaipur, Goa, and Dehradun increasingly popular choices.

To avoid the chaos of overbooked locations, 83% of respondents are open to exploring less conventional destinations. Hidden gems like Gokarna and Kalimpong are gaining traction. These unique spots offer intimate settings and distinctive charm. Planning is key, with 62% of Indian couples starting their destination wedding preparations up to 12 months in advance. While 40% rely on wedding planners, 36% trust recommendations from friends and family.
