Switzerland is synonymous with chocolate and cheese. Melt-in-the-mouth Swiss chocolates and moreish cheese fondue. So, a trip to the winter wonderland is incomplete without sampling both. But what if we were to tell you that a vintage train journey will let you sample the best of both? Running between Montreux and the Cailler-Nestlé chocolate factory, is Switzerland’s beloved Chocolate Train. A true relic for both cheese and chocolate fans alike.
Switzerland’s Chocolate Train Is Perfect For Chocoholics!
A gourmet excursion awaits travellers in Switzerland, which starts from Montreux with a Belle Époque carriage. Belle Époque-Pullman 1915 vintage coaches will first ferry passengers to Montbovon. Apart from relishing the lush green countryside views, the iconic Swiss day-trip also includes complimentary hot chocolate, Cailler chocolate and a bread roll.
After a 45-minute journey of breathtaking views and delicious bites, the Chocolate Train arrives at Montbovon. Here, passengers will be transferred to the Chocolate Train Bus, which will then take them to La Maison du Gruyère, a dairy factory. What follows is a spectacular look into the making of Swiss cheese, and of course, free samples follow too!
The next stop is the medieval town of Gruyères, and some time to explore the beauty of the town and its breathtaking views. In Gruyères, guests can stop by for a Swiss lunch at Auberge Halle, where fresh cheese, olives, live music and mountain views take centre stage. From a traditional Swiss music display to a chance to explore a medieval castle, Gruyères boasts a rich history.
