For this amazing Sunday Brunch episode, Kamiya Jani, our Editor-in-Chief, visited Tahira Kashyap and Ayushmann Khurrana’s stunning home in Andheri, Mumbai. We were in conversation with Tahira, the ‘Sharmajee Ki Beti’ director, and learnt all about her childhood days, her cute love story, her career and so much more. While we bonded over scrumptious food, she spoke about how Mumbai doesn’t have authentic jalebis! Read on.
Why Does Tahira Kashyap Not Enjoy Mumbai’s Jalebi?
After fun discussions about Ganesh Chathurthi, Chandigarh and more, it was time to indulge in a flavourful Punjabi feast. We were blown away by the massive spread of butter chicken, kali dal, lachcha paratha, rice, boondi raita, kofte and the list goes on! We were certainly on the verge of a food coma, Tahira!
During the brunch session, we played a fun game of ‘This or That’ with the film director, writer and producer. We asked Tahira Kashyap to choose between jalebi or gulab jamun. She immediately chose the former food item but expressed her disappointment in the jalebis that are sold in Mumbai. She tutted and said, “I fail to understand why Bombay’s jalebi is yellow and khatti. I don’t understand.”
Hailing from Chandigarh, the Punjabi kudi continued, “It’s supposed to be orange, thin, crisp and made in desi ghee.” She is quite particular about how she likes her jalebis! As fellow foodies, we totally understand the urge to have certain specifications when it comes to our favourite dishes.

The Best Ones In Chandigarh Are Found At…
Upon hearing about Tahira Kashyap’s perfect jalebi, the Mumbaikar in Kamiya shared that she has yet to try “orange, thin, crisp and made in desi ghee” jalebis. So, Kamiya asked Tahira about her go-to jalebi spots in Chandigarh. Our guest proudly mentioned that one can find good jalebis everywhere in her hometown.
She listed the popular eateries like Punjab Sweets, Gopal Sweets and sweet shops in Sector 7. When we are in the capital of Punjab, we will definitely give these shops a visit and see what the Mumbaikars are missing out on.
