The India Meteorological Department or the IMD has issued heavy rain warnings across multiple southern states, with a particular focus on Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka. The weather forecast indicates potentially significant disruptions and challenging conditions in these regions. As a matter of fact, a number of regions in Tamil Nadu have declared orange alert. Here are all of the important details that you would need to know about the weather in this particular South Indian state.

Tamil Nadu Rains: Schools Shut After Orange Alert Issued

According to an article which was recently published by livemint, an orange alert has been declared for several districts. These are Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, and Thanjavur, signalling the potential for heavy to very heavy rainfall.

A yellow alert covers additional districts such as Chennai, Tiruvallur, and Kancheepuram. Responding to the forecast, local authorities have proactively declared school holidays in multiple districts to ensure public safety.

Kerala is expecting similar challenging weather conditions, with an orange alert issued for Ernakulam, Idukki, and Thrissur districts on December 12, 2025. Numerous other districts are anticipated to experience heavy rainfall, including Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, and Malappuram.

Other Important Weather Predictions About The Regions

The rainfall predictions extend from December 10 to 16, with isolated locations potentially experiencing very heavy precipitation. The IMD has highlighted that most of peninsular and west-central India may witness above-normal rainfall.

Northern and northeastern regions are expected to experience normal to below-normal precipitation. Transportation services are also adapting to the weather conditions. SpiceJet, for instance, has issued an advisory warning passengers about potential flight disruptions in Chennai due to heavy rainfall.

The orange and yellow alerts serve as crucial warnings for residents and local authorities to prepare for potential flooding, transportation challenges, and other weather-related risks. Residents in the affected regions are advised to stay informed, follow local weather updates, and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety during this period of intense rainfall.
