Diwali is just around the corner and the entire country is gearing up for its celebration. It is arguably the biggest festival in India with almost everyone partaking in the festivities regardless of faith. However, Diwali is also a festival where endless firecrackers are burst, drastically raising air and noise pollution in the country. A number of regions in India therefore take proactive measures against the bursting of crackers. Tamil Nadu is one such state that took such a measure recently.
Tamil Nadu: TNPCB Issues Advisory For Diwali Firecrackers
According to an article which was recently published by The Hindu, the Indian state of Tamil Nadu has taken some proactive measures against the excessive bursting of firecrackers. The Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board or the TNPCB has issued an advisory about it.
In the advisory, they allotted an hour during the morning and an hour during the evening as allotted time for bursting firecrackers. In the morning, the time allotted for it is 6 AM to 7 AM, whereas, in the evening, the time allotted for it is 7 PM to 8 PM.
The advisory stipulated these in order to curb the noise and air pollution that ensues as a result of crackers bursting. Given that firecrackers are a huge part of Diwali celebrations, it is unreasonable to expect people to cut them off altogether. However, these stipulated timings make it easier to curb pollution without stifling the festive spirit.
India Gears Up For Celebrating Diwali, The Biggest Celebration
The TNPCB is also going to collaborate with a few other government organisations in order to monitor the health and environmental impacts of bursting crackers.
Diwali is the biggest festival in India and is celebrated across the country. It is also known as the festival of lights and is often compared to Christmas in the Western world given the magnitude of its impact.
