Desi foodies not only love gorging on a gastronomic feast of Indian classic delicacies but are very passionate about food as well. We have our special methods to cook even the most classic recipes and relish them with our favourite side dishes. We love Indian cuisine so much that we feel proud when any Indian classics receive recognition worldwide.
But many are a bit sad seeing Chicken Tikka Masala in the latest edition of the 50 Best Chicken Dishes list released by TasteAtlas. No, Chicken Tikka Masala clinching the 21st rank with a 4.4 rating is not the problem here. Netizens are displeased seeing TasteAtlas considering the evergreen delicacy as British food.
Focusing solely on Indian representation, the 50 Best Chicken Dishes list featured Butter Chicken in the fourth rank with a spectacular rating of 4.5. On position 6, we have Tikka with a rating of 4.5. Rated 4.5, India’s Chicken 65 made it to the tenth position. Lastly, there is Tandoori Chicken ranked 18 with a rating of 4.4.

Seeing TasteAtlas including Chicken Tikka Masala in British cuisine, Netizens began pointing out that the dish is not a part of the authentic food fare of the United Kingdom. An Instagrammer asked, “When did chicken tikka masala become British?” A comment read, “How come chicken tikka masala became British…look at the name itself! Does it sound British to you?” Someone tagged TasteAtlas and wrote, “Chicken Tikka Masala is an Indian dish and not British.”
