Tawang Forms ‘Clean Tawang Task Force’ To Deal With Plastic Waste
Setting a powerful example of unity and purpose, the people of Tawang have come together to launch the ‘Clean Tawang Task Force’. It is an inspiring initiative to deal with the growing implications of plastic pollution and preserve the region’s natural charm. The meeting, called by MLA Namgey Tsering, was attended by representatives from Shar-Tso and Seru-Tso, the Monpa Mimang Tsogpa (MMT), the Women’s Welfare Association, the Hoteliers and Taxi Associations, the Bazar Secretaries, the All Monpa Students’ Union (AMSU), the All Tawang District Students’ Union (ATDSU), and other non-governmental organisations.
The objective of this meeting was to find a way around the excessive use of plastic bags, bottles, and other single-use plastics that are contaminating Tawang beautiful landscape. After careful consideration, it was decided to create a special task force to oversee and carry out cleanliness and sustainability projects across Tawang.
Plastic bottles, plastic bags, and other single-use plastic products are strictly banned throughout the district. This initiative will not only make everyday life better but will also promote sustainable tourism. The Clean Tawang Task Force will work to save Tawang’s natural beauty for future generations by reducing non-biodegradable waste.

A Major Step Towards Sustainable Tourism
Plastic waste contaminates Tawang’s rivers, disturbs the biodiversity of the area, and endangers local wildlife. The task force will work to stop this pollution of public areas, forests, and holy sites by focusing on single-use plastics. This community-led initiative may soon turn Tawang into a model for sustainable tourism. Additionally, it is anticipated that the ban will enhance Tawang’s reputation as a progressive place where nature is actively preserved.
In his Facebook post following the meeting, MLA Namgey Tsering stated that the fight against plastic pollution is not solely for the government or one organisation. Everyone in Tawang is contributing to this group effort.
So, if you’re planning a trip to Tawang anytime soon, get ready to be inspired.
