As per the NDRF Deputy Commander Sukhendu, there is water in the tunnel as it is being built to carry Krishna River water to Nalgonda district. Until the water and debris are removed, it will be difficult to carry out the rescue operations. Officials believe that the accident occurred due to the slippage of a concrete segment that was used to seal seepage at the 14-km inlet of the Srisailam Left Bank Canal tunnel.
After learning about the incident, Prime Minister Narendra Modi assured Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy that the government would provide “all possible assistance” to the state and help them out with the rescue operations and bring the trapped workers back to safety.
