A recent surprise inspection by the Food Safety Task Force team has led to the immediate cancellation of the central kitchen licence of Sri Chaitanya Educational Institutions in Madhapur, Hyderabad. The inspection unveiled deeply concerning hygiene violations at the facility responsible for preparing meals for thousands of students across the institution’s hostels in Greater Hyderabad. Here are all of the other important details that you would need to know about the alarming findings of this surprise inspection.
Telangana CFS Revokes Licence Of Sri Chaitanya Central Kitchen
The task force discovered a catalogue of serious infractions that posed significant health risks to students. The kitchen’s infrastructure was found to be severely compromised, with uneven and damp flooring that was littered with food waste.
Broken floor drains lacking protective meshes had become potential entry points for pests. Moreover, the walls and exhaust system were coated in layers of grease. Most worryingly, the presence of cockroaches and rats was detected in the food preparation areas.
The inspection also revealed critical lapses in food safety protocols and documentation. The establishment failed to maintain essential records, including water analysis reports and pest control documentation. Staff members also lacked the mandatory FOSTOC certificates.
Other Infractions Found At The Central Kitchen
FOSTOC stands for Food Safety Training and Certification. What is more, basic hygiene practices were neglected, with kitchen staff working without protective gloves. Storage conditions were also quite concerning here.
Food items were primarily kept on the floor rather than on proper storage racks. The refrigeration units were found in an unsanitary state, and the facility’s waste management system was inadequate, with open dustbins allowing refuse to scatter.
Furthermore, the institution was operating twelve vehicles for food transportation without proper licensing. These findings highlight a serious disregard for food safety standards in an establishment responsible for feeding a large student population.
The decisive action taken by the Food Safety Department underscores the gravity of these violations and demonstrates the authorities’ commitment to maintaining strict food safety standards in educational institutions.
