The recent food safety raids conducted by Telangana Commissioner of Food Safety officials have exposed severe violations of hygiene in popular restaurants like Kshatriya Foods at Kavuri Hills and Varalaxmi Tiffins at Gachibowli. The raids exposed gruesome conditions that raised questions about public health and food safety standards in the state. Officials, during the raids, found both establishments lacking basic hygiene and cleanliness standards. The inspection team observed dirty floors, water pooling, and improper waste disposal, which indicated a major health risk to customers.
Telangana Food Safety Raids Uncover Alarming Offenses
Varalaxmi Tiffins had unbelievable lapses in cleanliness, as exposed by the Telangana food safety team. The kitchen was itself in a filthy condition, with grimy walls and shattered flooring. Rats were also seen in the vicinity of the kitchen area, which increased the health hazards even further.
The kitchen exhaust system was oily, and oil spilt onto the surfaces. Also, clogged drains resulted in water accumulating and causing a nice breeding ground for pests and bacteria.
The food waste disposal system was also found to be poor, where the waste was being directly dumped into the drains rather than being properly disposed of.
Even at Kshatriya Foods, Kavuri Hills, the condition was the same. The flooring was damaged and dirty, with water stagnation all over the premises. The chimneys of the restaurant were greasy, and oil dripped from the exhaust.
Food waste had blocked the drainage system, which had attracted houseflies, which were present in the vegetable-cutting area.
Inspectors also observed the fridge in an unsanitary condition, where vegetarian and non-vegetarian food were kept together. Raw chicken and mutton blood were also observed oozing and freezing, which again increased the chances of contamination.
Authorities To Take Serious Action
As reported by Telangana Today, officials declared that stringent action would be initiated against both of these establishments. As a measure, penalties will be levied, and additional inspections will be conducted to ensure that food safety regulations are followed.
These Telangana food safety raids bring the need for stringent measures of hygiene in restaurants into focus. Consumers are asked to take precautions and insist on higher standards of hygiene from restaurants to protect public health.
Maybe it is high time we, as consumers, start being more vigilant—asking questions about the cleanliness of the eating joints. After all, hygienic and safe food is a right, not a privilege.
