Guess who Curly Tales met again? It’s Ali Fazal! A year back, our Editor-in-Chief, Kamiya Jani, met the Mirzapur star to explore the streets of Carter Road. And now, we’re back to taste the wholesome Japanese cuisine in Bandra. From Fukrey to 3 Idiots to the Mirzapur series, this versatile actor has carved his unique path to success. In this episode of Tere Gully Mein, Kamiya took Ali Fazal to some of the famous Japanese hotspots, where he opened up about his life, family, career, love and more. We had an absolute blast with him, as our very own ‘Guddu Bhaiyya’ had no clue about Japanese cuisine. Here’s how it all went down.
Turns Out Ali Fazal Is A Fan Of Richa Chadha!
We met Ali Fazal at Abokada in Mumbai, where we picked up our drinks, and Kamiya drove Ali Fazal to an authentic Japanese-inspired restaurant. During the conversation, Ali revealed that he met Richa during the COVID period. For him, it was not love at first sight, but rather, he was her fanboy. Cute, right? He said, “’I was her big, big fan. We met, and slowly, we became friendly. Sometimes love is usually around you, and then one day it just hits you like, ‘This is right here.’’
He shared that for both of them, ‘alone time’ is a must, and they believe that even as a couple, spending time alone is necessary. Ali Fazal also shared his favourite hangout spots in Mumbai, revealing that he often visits Mount Mary Church on Hill Road to hang out with his friends.
We Introduce Him To The Japanese Cuisine
As soon as the drive ended, we headed to Mirai, a Japanese & Korean restaurant. Ali has never been to Japan, but Curly Tales brought the flavours of Japan to him, right here in Mumbai. While slurping the ramen and savouring the sushi, we played a fun game where he had to taste plain wasabi if he lied. We asked him many fun questions, and one of them was whether he had ever stalked someone’s Instagram profile way too much and accidentally liked their post. Turns out the actor liked Lady Gaga’s post and laughingly denied giving the backstory of the incident.
At the Mirai Restaurant, we ordered Oh My God Sushi, Tempura, Japanese Hotpot, Udon Noodles and more. Out of all the dishes, it was the Udon Noodles that won him over, and he even ordered some to take home for Richa. When he mispronounced a dish named Sea Bass as ‘Shivas’, it made everyone laugh out loud. Kamiya even taught him the ‘desi jugaad’ to hold a chopstick, as he was struggling to fit the noodles in the chopsticks, to which he said, ‘’Arey aana (Come on, man!)”
Next Japanese Hotspot Is…
The Japanese food trail in Bandra didn’t end just yet! We took Ali Fazal to Kurakuu, where we played an exciting game where he had to guess whether the food’s name we were introducing him to be real or fake. His guessing game was not so strong; he barely got any names right. Over some delicious Chicken Katsu Curry, Okonamiyaki and more, he spoke about ‘Ikigai’ and how he inculcates its philosophy in his life. While juggling his work and personal life, he also opens up about the anxiety he experiences in the midst of it all.
Ali Fazal carries a backpack and ensures it has everything so that in case of an emergency, his bag can save him. Want to know about everything else he shared? Watch the full episode on the Curly Tales YouTube channel.
