Flying To Thailand? Be Ready To Pay ₹856 Entry Fee On Arrival

A visit to Thailand could soon get a little more expensive. Thailand’s government is set to introduce a 300 Baht (₹856 approx) entry fee for foreign tourists arriving by air. The aim of introducing this fee is to generate revenue from international tourism. Here’s what a traveller needs to know.

Thailand Plans To Roll Out Entry Fee For Air Travellers

The plan to impose a 300 Baht (₹856 approx) tourist fee has been in the works for a long time now. But according to The Economic Times, it might soon be implemented. Thailand’s incoming government has decided to fast-track the plan. This means international tourists flying into Thailand will be required to pay this extra charge to explore the country in Southeast Asia.

The tourist fee aims to generate revenue for tourism infrastructure, crowd control, and safety measures in Thailand. Deputy Prime Minister and Transport Minister Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn confirmed the revised policy and stated that it will apply only to travellers arriving by air. The fee is expected to be collected digitally. Authorities will integrate it into existing immigration or arrival procedures. However, the operational details are yet to be finalised.

What Does This Mean For Indian Travellers?

Initially, there were plans to charge a 150 Baht fee for tourists arriving via land and sea, but those have been put on hold for now. According to The Economic Times, the decision to exclude land and sea entry is aimed at avoiding a burden on cross-border commuters and short-term visitors.

Indians travelling to Thailand should keep in mind that this change means they will have to pay approximately ₹856 per person once the fee comes into effect. The amount is not too high, but it will apply per visit and cannot be avoided. Thailand is still one of the most popular destinations for Indians due to its affordability and short-haul flights. The destination has a lot to offer, from pristine beaches to bustling nightlife and amazing food.
