As India gears up to celebrate its 78th Independence Day, The Bombay Canteen is back with its 10th Independence Day Daawat. Keeping up with their promise of ‘good food for a good cause’, the restaurant is hosting its 10th Independence Day Daawat on Thursday, August 15, 2024, from 11 am to 4 pm, dine-in only. For this special lunch, the restaurant will be transformed into a community-style diner. There will be a thali-style dining experience where they will serve regional Indian delicacies on traditional banana leaves.

The chefs at The Bombay Canteen have curated a feast of regional specials. So, you will find dishes like Chhole Masala from Amritsar, Notun Aloor Dum from Bengal, Assamese Gutti Aloo and Badami Aloo, Hyderabadi Navratan Korma, Safed Dal, Millet Haleem, and Gongura Keema from Andhra Pradesh.

These main dishes will be served with a selection of accompaniments and chutneys including the Kashmiri Beetroot & Apple Chetin, Kothimbir Vadi Chaat from Maharashtra, Crispy Fried Patra from Gujarat, Marwari Papad Chura from Rajasthan, Thattai from Chennai, and Kerala’s Tender Mango Pickle. You cannot miss out on the celebratory Tirangi Barfi which has three layers – saffron motipak, vanilla kalakand, and pista barfi. Or you can indulge in some Milk Cake from Bombay Sweet Shop, to finish your meal on a sweet note.

A Promise Of ‘Good Food For A Good Cause’

Besides their delicious food, The Bombay Canteen’s 10th Independence Day Daawat is also special because they’re keeping up with their promise of ‘good food for a good cause’. The restaurant has come together with Nature:re, an RPG Foundation initiative, and is taking steps to rebalance the environment this Independence Day. For this, they will plant native trees and transform Mahalaxmi’s Captain Namdev Lotankar Park and convert it into an ecologically driven urban oasis.

During this Independence Day special lunch, guests will be encouraged to pay what they like for the meal. So, anyone can come in, eat, and help raise money for the cause. The Bombay Canteen aims to restore biodiversity and bring back the lush greenery that Mumbai deserves!
