There’s no doubt that women all over the world are progressing by leaps and bounds. Indian women, in particular, are not too far behind. So far ahead in fact that India has finally gotten its very first female navy pilot. A resident of Muzaffarpur, Bihar, Lieutenant Shivangi is the very first woman pilot to join the Indian Navy. She is all set to become a part of operations from the 2nd of December.
First Woman Pilot Of Indian Navy
Lieutenant Shivangi who is going to be inducted to the Indian Navy as the first female pilot did her schooling from Muzaffarpur. After finishing her schooling from DAV Public School, we went on to do her B.Tech from Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology (SMIT) She will be piloting the fixed-wing Dornier surveillance aircraft. Joining just two days ahead of Navy Day, she will be involved in Operation Duty in Kochi.
Joining The Navy
Shivangi joined as a SAC (Pilot) under the 27 NOC Course at the Indian Naval Academy. Post which she was formally made a part of the Indian Navy by the Vice Admiral AK Chawla last year in the month of June. The very first woman to actually pilot a plane for the Indian Navy, she will primarily be involved with surveillance. The Indian Navy dispatches these surveillance aircrafts for short maritime missions. The aircrafts are designed to carry out advanced surveillance and come equipped with electronic sensors, radars and networking.
For the longest time, the Navy has had women officers who work with air traffic control or are observers and Shivangi is the first woman to get to actually pilot an aircraft. She is currently undergoing training for the same in Southern Command. It gives a huge sense of pride to see women getting prime roles and displaying their abilities in the big leagues.
