In a shocking turn of events, the National Highway 55 has suffered significant damage. A part of the NH 5 has caved in near the village of Nigul Sari. This particular incident has caused significant distress as many vehicles heading from Kinnaur to Spiti are left stranded on the highway. They are unable to move forward. This incident happened last night and here are all the details that you need to know about this tragic turn of events.
Only Way From Kinnaur To Spiti Caved In
This particular incident has inconvenienced many vehicles that were in transit on NH-5. Around 150 to 300 metres of a part of the National Highway has completely caved in! So much so that it cannot be tread upon even by foot.
According to an article recently published in The Tribune, the village near which this happened is Kinnaur’s Nigul Sari in Himachal Pradesh. Nigul Sari is one of the sites which is located near critical infrastructure and is prone to landslides.
The caving-in of the stretch has resulted in a complete stop of vehicular movement. The cave-in has also resulted in the complete cut-off of road transport between Kinnaur and Spiti as it is the only road that connects the two.

Shimla Cut-Off From Spiti Valley And Kinnaur
The sinking has also resulted in Shimla being cut off from Spiti Valley as well as Kinnaur. As per the article by The Tribune, apple-laden trucks were among the vehicles stranded due to the landslides. The apples were from Kinnaur and because they couldn’t go ahead, they were worried that the fruit might rot.
Jagat Singh Negi, who is the minister of Horticulture and Tribal Development visited the spot and directed it to be cleared immediately. He also asked the officials to arrange for trans-shipment of goods as well as passengers.
This means that buses and trucks on the Kinnaur side would take passengers and goods coming from the Shimla side and go back to Kinnaur and vice versa.
